Tragedy struck on May 11 when 16-year-old Alex Walker, a student at Pioneer High School, drowned after jumping off the train trestle at Bandemer Park in Ann Arbor while with a group of friends.
Alex embraced life and enjoyed every second of it, spreading pure love and joy to everyone around him. He went out of his way to love his family, and never parted ways with his mother without telling her he loved her. Alex was a member of Pioneer's track, basketball, and football teams, and involved in Ann Arbor Boy Scout Troop #1 and the Southfield Kappa League. His absence will be felt deeply by everyone who knew him.
We've started this fund to help support Alex's family during this indescribably difficult time. We are so grateful for any support you can offer to Alex's mother Kim as she says goodbye to her son, navigates this new reality, and supports a family.
We also want Alex's death to serve as a warning to other members of the community about the danger posed by the Huron River, a prominent source of recreation in our community. Although Alex knew how to swim, there were dangers beneath the surface that could not be seen. Please, don't let this happen to anyone else's family.
Thank you for your support.
