On May 2nd, at 10:30am, I was doing a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class at MN Top Team with my father, Michael Selle. During his first live roll of the class, something unimaginable happened. During a light rear naked choke, he tapped right away. Afterward, he ended up feeling light headed, saw stars, and was dizzy & was stumbling. But knowing how stubborn my father is, he continued on with class to not miss any more rolls and to roll with me and enjoy the moment. When we left, he started to hit curbs, couldn’t drive correctly, and told me,
“McKayla, my left arm is feeling numb.”
I immediately had him pull over after that, of which my mind immediately went to him having a possible mini stroke. When he went to the passenger seat, he couldn’t even buckle himself in. I felt the panic set in and rushed him to the nearest emergency room, Abbot In Plymouth.
They then told us he tore his carotid artery, and suffered a stroke. A freak accident that none of us could have anticipated. One moment we were sharing a passion we both love, and the next, our lives changed in an instant. A few hours later, he was transferred to Abbot Neurology ICU, of which later that night, he suffered another bigger stroke, of which they had to put a stent in. My dad is now facing a long road to recovery.
My father is active, dedicated, and full of life. Now, he’s unable to work as he focuses on healing and rehabilitation. The medical bills are already piling up, and the costs of ongoing care and therapy are overwhelming. As his daughter, I want to do everything I can to support him, but we can’t do it alone.
Your support will help cover Michael’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, future medication with the stent, and daily needs while he recovers. Every contribution, brings us closer to getting him back to what he loves doing and gives him the chance to live life fully again. Thank you for your sincerity and kindness. Your generosity truly means the difference between him being himself again. Thank you.
