Hi my name is Lucy,

I am a student in the UCD Masters in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics programme, and this year, I am participating in the UCD Volunteers Overseas (UCDVO) Programme. I will be heading to Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda this June for a four-week voluntary placement to support children with cerebral palsy and their families.

Alongside a group of volunteers and clinical tutors from the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy, and Sports Science, I’ll be assisting local staff in a Community and Paediatric Rehabilitation Programme, which includes:

Intensive therapy programmes for children with cerebral palsy

Group therapy sessions & community outreach

Education activities and engagement with the hospital’s nutrition programme

Kisiizi Hospital is a not-for-profit healthcare provider that serves its community through essential services, including paediatric care, rehabilitation, outreach clinics, and nutrition support.

Each volunteer is asked to raise a minimum of €1,550, which goes directly to UCDVO’s overseas partners to fund their development work. Volunteers are also required to pay for their flights and other costs such as visas and vaccinations.
