In 2021, at just 19 years old, Lucas heard words that would change his life forever: he had been diagnosed with NUT carcinoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive forms of cancer, found under his tongue.

What followed was a grueling battle. Lucas endured major surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. He faced uncertainty, pain, and challenges that most people never encounter in a lifetime. During treatment, he also developed Type 1 diabetes, a rare and life-altering complication of immunotherapy.

Yet through it all, Lucas never stopped moving forward.

Over the next three years, he fought his way back to the life he loved. Despite missing an entire semester of school while undergoing treatment, he graduated on time with his classmates. He continued pursuing his passions in art and performance, and eventually fulfilled a lifelong dream: moving to New York City and building an independent life of his own.

For a time, it felt like the future he had worked so hard for was finally within reach.

Then, in May 2026, everything changed.

Lucas became critically ill with severe pain. Imaging revealed devastating news—a large tumor in his liver, along with additional lesions. After years of recovery and rebuilding, he is once again facing the fight of his life.

Lucas has returned to Massachusetts to be close to his medical team in Boston and has begun another intensive course of treatment. The road ahead is uncertain, but one thing remains unchanged: his determination, courage, and refusal to give up.

As Lucas focuses all of his energy on treatment and recovery, the financial realities of cancer continue to grow. Medical expenses, transportation to appointments, parking, medications, rent, and countless day-to-day costs add up quickly, especially while he is unable to work.
