Krystin, my sister-in-law, has been bravely battling an aggressive form of inflammatory breast cancer. Earlier this month, she underwent a total mastectomy on her left side, which included the removal of several cancerous lymph nodes and a lymphatic vascular bypass. She also had a precautionary lumpectomy on her right side. While Krystin has been healing well, the plan was for her to begin aggressive radiation treatment, as there was a known cancerous lymph node too close to her chest wall to be removed through surgery. Unfortunately, at her recent post-op appointment, doctors informed her that the final pathology from surgery showed the cancer had spread to the muscle of her left chest wall and was not removed during her mastectomy. Now, Krystin faces another surgery in just a few days to hopefully remove the remaining cancerous tissue. This setback delays her radiation, but the goal is to start as soon as possible. Radiation will take place in Houston, which is three hours away from her home, and will last for six weeks. Krystin will need to rent a living space in Houston during this time. As many of you know, Krystin does not have disability insurance and has continued working throughout her cancer fight. She will be unable to work during her radiation treatment, adding to the financial strain. Funds raised will go directly toward the cost of renting a living space in Houston for 6-8 weeks, mounting medical bills, and travel costs so she can visit with her husband, young son, and family on the weekends. Krystin is a beautiful wife and mother fighting for her life. Any amount that can be given, or even just sharing this fundraiser, would help ease this overwhelming situation so she can focus on kicking cancer’s ass!
