Support Kim Scheid After Losing Her Dream Horse
Donazione protetta
Three years ago, Kim Scheid and I traveled to Spain to find her dream horse that would be her last horse. She took out a loan to buy him so she could enjoy it while she can still ride. We found 6-year-old Dahli (Dee) and they had an instant connection. For 2 years, Kim had so much fun riding and showing him.
Then last year, Kim broke her ankle. She ended up needing multiple surgeries—every time she started back to riding, she'd find out another surgery was needed. This created financial strain as she had to pay for more help at the barn and lost teaching time. The huge increases in home insurance in CA forced her to drop the insurance she had on Dee. She kept positive throughout these challenges by designing her musical freestyle as she fell asleep each night.
She had only been fully cleared for riding a few months ago, right before the epic summer heat waves. Even so, she had just started having fun riding her horse again in the last month. Thursday (9/12) evening, Dee showed signs of colic that didn't respond to the usual medications. The vet was called, and he thought there was an impaction and possibly a small intestine twist. Kim rushed him to the hospital for colic surgery. During the surgery prep, they discovered his stomach had ruptured and he could not be saved, so she said goodbye to her dream horse in the early hours of Friday morning. She now has to pay off his loan, plus the vet bills, and has no horse. She gave me permission to put together a GoFundMe—I know she has many friends in the CA horse community that I don't know, who might be willing to give her a little financial help during this very difficult time. If you know me personally and wish to donate, you are welcome to donate directly.
