Support Jasmine’s Healing After Car Accident
Donation protected
Last week, on July 14th at 4 PM, my friend Jasmine was driving her children, Azalea & Xavier, & their friend Nafari to do errands when they were T-boned by a large truck running a red light in a severe car accident. As the truck sped through the light, it hit the driver’s door, striking Jasmine most directly & trapping her inside the vehicle until EMTs & firefighters could cut her out using the jaws of life. Miraculously, the children & a puppy that was with them were all uninjured as the strike directly hit Jasmine, with such force that her seat split & she is left with 4 fractures in her left hip. She required immediate hospitalization & was placed in ICU due to the extent of her injuries. After stabilizing, she was rushed into surgery to place 3 plates over her fractures. During all of this, she lost enough blood to require multiple blood transfusions & was monitored for several days for a severe hematoma to ensure there was no internal bleeding. As of yesterday, she has been placed in a rehabilitation facility that will require many weeks or more of constant care to heal & regain her mobility.
While we are so very grateful that this accident was not any more severe than it was, this has caused an upheaval of daily life for the Martinez family. Jasmine is not only her children’s mother but she is their teacher who homeschools them full time, as well as a caregiver for her disabled mother. Because her husband, Chris, usually works full time, he has had to drastically reduce hours at work to care for his family. In addition to reduced income, medical needs & many other changes to the family’s daily life, there are also many additional costs (such as extensive commutes to & from rehab for Jasmine’s family to visit her) to consider while a family member is recovering from such a significant physical trauma.
Again, we are very, deeply grateful for everyone’s survival from this accident, as well as the swift response from Jasmine & Chris’ oldest, Azalea, who not only got Xavier & Nafari & Pepita (the puppy) out of the car safely, but also talked to 911 until help arrived on the scene to free their mom from the car & get her in the ambulance. We know many accidents like this can be much worse despite this one being pretty intense itself & the many challenges the family is now facing in the wake of this event & Jasmine’s prolonged recovery. If you are able to, please donate & share so we can support Jasmine & her family in the long recovery ahead.
