Saving Them All Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit that focuses on cats with special needs. Our latest intake and newest sanctuary cat, Little Gideon, is a paralyzed kitten with trauma on his back end that has led to malformation of his scrotum and penis. He was found by a good samaritan crawling around under a camper at four weeks old. He recently turned four months old and is so full of life! He runs and plays with his cat friends like nothing has ever happened to him.
On December 1st, Gideon was not acting himself. After being seen by his vet, it was determined that Gideon was not able to urinate on his own. We were able to express it easily until the morning of December 4th, when Gideon was quickly taken to the emergency hospital. Unfortunately, the emergency hospital did not have the answers we were hoping for, so Gideon was taken to the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine to be seen by some of the best veterinarians we know.
While at the vet school, Gideon has been seen by neurology, who has said it is not neurological, which is great. They believe he has a mechanical obstruction, which surgery is going to try to repair with a PU surgery in a few months. Their neurology department is also going to special order him a wheelchair in his tiny 3.2lb size to help keep his scrotum from dragging the ground when he crawls.
With all that being done, Gideon has racked up a rather large bill. At the first emergency clinic, we spent around $1,000. The deposit at the vet school was $2,250, and will be much more by the time he gets to come home. Any help we can get would be greatly appreciated!
