Support for Newly Arrived Afghan Refugee Family in Maryland

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Martha and I am raising money to help an Afghan refugee family that arrived in the United States on January 17, 2025, just days before an executive order was issued cancelling federal refugee support programs.

The father of this family worked for the US Embassy as a security guard at the Kabul airport, protecting Americans even as the Taliban encroached. He did not make it out three years ago when the government fell. He, his wife, and their two young children (3 and 5) have been in hiding in Afghanistan since that time.

I have been involved with the Afghan refugee community for the past three years. I started this volunteer work as the team lead for a co-sponsorship group supporting ECDC (Ethiopian Community Development Council) case workers. ECDC is one of nine agencies in the United States registered to process refugee arrivals in conjunction with the U.S. State Department.

ECDC, which serves the Washington, DC, metro area (including northern Virginia and Maryland) placed this family in an apartment complex in Riverdale, Maryland. We are keeping the name of the family private for security reasons.

With federal support for refugee resettlement programs cut off for the foreseeable future, we are raising funds for rent support and other essential living expenses as this young family finds its footing here.

Your gift will provide a few months of security while the family seeks its own means of self-sufficiency. Thank you for your generosity!
