Support for Kortnie Benson Barajas' Family

On what would have been their 12th wedding anniversary, our family is mourning the loss of Kortnie Benson Barajas—a beloved friend, sister, daughter, mother, and wife. 

UPDATE for clarification: My brother and Kortnie were legally married they were separated for a few years. Her three oldest are under the care of my brother and her two youngest are from a separate relationship and they are adopted through an amazing family. Yes they were celebrating their wedding anniversary because they were coparenting and being the best friends they knew how to be. 

 She passed unexpectedly on 8/1/2025, in a very publicized accident. Kortnie was a rainbow of colors, always bringing light and warmth to those around her. She was my brother’s soulmate and treated our mother with endless kindness, always calling her “Mom.”

Kortnie’s sudden passing has left a deep void in our lives. She was happiest when surrounded by nature, camping with her family, and sharing her love for the outdoors. Kortnie leaves behind five wonderful children who were her world.

 Our family is now facing the difficult task of arranging her funeral and finding ways to support her children as they move forward without her.

We are kindly asking for donations to help cover funeral expenses and to provide for Kortnie’s children’s daily needs and future. Your support will help us honor Kortnie’s memory and ensure her children have the care and stability they need during this heartbreaking time. En lo que habría sido su 12.º aniversario de bodas, nuestra familia lamenta la pérdida de Kortnie Benson Barajas, una querida amiga, hermana, hija, madre y esposa. Falleció inesperadamente el 1 de agosto de 2025 en un accidente muy publicitado. Kortnie era un arcoíris de colores, siempre llenando de luz y calidez a quienes la rodeaban. Era el alma gemela de mi hermano y trataba a nuestra madre con infinita bondad, llamándola siempre "mamá".

ACTUALIZACIÓN para aclarar: Mi hermano y Kortnie estaban legalmente casados, pero estuvieron separados durante unos años. Sus tres hijos mayores están bajo el cuidado de mi hermano y sus dos hijos menores son de una relación separada y fueron adoptados por una familia maravillosa. Sí, celebraban su aniversario de bodas porque compartían la crianza y eran los mejores amigos que sabían ser.

El repentino fallecimiento de Kortnie ha dejado un profundo vacío en nuestras vidas. Era más feliz rodeada de naturaleza, acampando con su familia y compartiendo su amor por la naturaleza. Kortnie deja cinco hijos maravillosos que eran su mundo. Nuestra familia ahora se enfrenta a la difícil tarea de organizar su funeral y encontrar maneras de apoyar a sus hijos mientras siguen adelante sin ella.
