Student Midwife Volunteering in Sri Lanka

I am a Student Midwife, Ellie, optimistic at the opportunity to volunteer at a hospital within Kandy, Sri Lanka, this June.

As part of my degree, I have the chance to undertake an elective placement in an area that deeply interests me. Volunteering in a healthcare setting that faces the challenges of poverty will allow me to witness first-hand the stark contrasts in maternal care between Sri Lanka and the NHS. I am excited about the opportunity to work with mothers from diverse cultures, religions, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. This experience will shape me into a holistic, compassionate midwife who can provide the best care no matter the setting. However this journey comes with costs; accommodation, flights, visas, medical equipment and vaccinations.
