Stop the 10-Story Cell Phone Tower

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Concerned Residents of San Francisco,

Our Opposition Group needs your help to protect the natural beauty at the heart of San Francisco – Glen Canyon and George Christopher Parks – and the community of Diamond Heights. The SF Planning Commission approved an AT&T proposal in a 4-3 vote to install a 10-story cell tower on the edge of the SF Police Academy property right next to both of those parks. If approved, this tower would forever change the landscape, threaten local wildlife, and disrupt the peace of our cherished green space along with posing safety, fire and landslide risks.

Our group believes that more modern and safer alternative solutions exist to help improve AT&T service in our neighborhood. AT&T has refused to consider any other plan than the 10-story cell tower with 12 antennas, 9 radio receivers, and a 150-gallon backup diesel fuel generator.

Our group filed appeals of the 10-story tower approval by the San Francisco Planning Commission. The appeals will be heard on February 10th at 3:00 pm before the Board of Supervisors. We need letters from all over San Francisco opposing the tower. If AT&T retains tower approval, massive towers will be proposed for other neighborhoods. This tower will be the largest tower of its size in or next to parks in San Francisco. Such towers may be appropriate in industrial areas and but not in a residential area.

We need funding to hire experts to provide analysis for the hearing. Every dollar you contribute will go directly towards our efforts to stop the cell tower including:
• Environmental consultants specifically a biologist to determine the impact on Glen Canyon Park’s countless species of birds and native plants. Birds including the raptors that roost in the parks can be disoriented by required aviation lights and bad weather and die colliding with the macro tower
• Legal experts to interpret the many City, State and Federal codes for cell tower placement
• Electromagnetic Field (EMF) expert to determine if coverage information provided by AT&T is correct. The tower is planned within 300’ of homes, 20’ of George Christopher Playground that serves up to 4 preschools on weekdays, and Glen Canyon Park
• Costs for flyers and educational materials

The proposed cell tower will be visible from much of Diamond Heights creating an eyesore and detracting from the natural beauty we all treasure.

Please donate to our cause to protect our parks and our neighborhoods for future generations. Please share this campaign with your friends and family. Together, we can make our voices heard and protect our parks! Since our group is up against AT&T, there is no way of knowing if we will be successful.
For more information about large fires caused by telecommunications facilities, land instability, decrease in home values, increase in insurance rates, buzzing and whistling in the antennas, please reply to this campaign.
Gratefully,
