On Sunday night my whole world was turned upside down when a hit and run by a cab landed my one-year-old rescue dog, Stasia, in the hospital. Due to the injuries sustained doctors gave her a 15% chance of making it through the night. She suffered severe damage to her left lung, internal bleeding and multiple fractures in her femur. It did not look good.


When given the choice to keep going or look at other options, money was the last thing on my mind. I only thought of my baby’s strength, and the long life she has ahead of her if she gets through this trauma. And I don’t regret my decision.


Stasia certainly is Bronx strong – 2 blood transfusions, an oxygen crate, imaging of her entire body, and 48 hours of fighting for her life have led to her being declared stable. Now she’s gaining strength and gearing up for surgery to repair her broken femur. Anesthesia for a healthy dog is already a serious risk, let alone a dog in her condition. But if she’s proved anything so far it’s that she’s a fighter, and I genuinely believe that she will fight her way through this next procedure.


Throughout this whole process I’ve made the choice to not put a monetary value on Stasia’s life, but when faced with the reality of her hospital bills it was then that I realized I needed to ask for help. Asking for help doesn’t come naturally to me, but nothing about this ordeal has been natural. So I’m here swallowing my pride and asking for help; help from friends, help from family, help from dog lovers and help from kindhearted strangers.


In addition to your positive thoughts, prayers, healing energy etc. any amount of money that you can contribute to help with Stasia’s ongoing medical bills would be appreciated more than you can imagine.

 
Any additional money collected past the cost of her medical bills will be donated to Rescue City, the amazing foster-based rescue organization that brought Stasia into my life; first as her foster mom, then as her forever family.
