Remembering Mark Painter — A Life Full of Humor & Adventure
With deep sadness, we share the passing of Mark Painter, who left us far too soon on August 12, 2025, at the age of 55. Mark was an incredible father, friend, and human being — someone who brought light, laughter, and warmth to everyone lucky enough to know him.
Born on April 6, 1970, and raised in Naperville, Illinois, Mark was the youngest of three siblings, growing up alongside his sisters Kim and Carrie, with parents Brian and Shirley. He graduated from Naperville High School and later earned his degree from Illinois State University, where his intelligence, creativity, and passion for life began to shine.
Mark eventually followed his dreams to Maple Valley, where he built a beautiful life, a loving home, and a legacy that will never be forgotten. He was a proud father to Rachel and Max — two amazing kids I had the honor of growing up with — and a devoted pet dad to his beloved dogs, Auggie and Molly.
Mark had a rare combination of traits that made him unforgettable: fun, loving, smart, funny, creative, adventurous, and incredibly hardworking. He was a passionate lover of music, art, and sports, and he never stopped chasing the things that made him feel alive. He found joy and freedom on the open road riding his motorcycle, and he loved the thrill of carving through fresh powder on his skis. For over 20 years, he worked his dream job at Wizards of the Coast, doing what he loved with people who became like a second family.
More than anything, Mark believed in living life to the fullest. He often said the point of life was to have fun, take risks, enjoy every moment, and never let go of your inner child. His contagious spirit and outlook on life are something we’ll carry with us forever.
As we begin to process this heartbreaking loss, we’re asking for your help to give Mark the farewell he deserves. All donations will go directly toward funeral and memorial costs to honor a man who gave so much to so many.
Whether you’re able to donate or simply share this page, your support means the world to the Painter family and to everyone who loved Mark.
Thank you for helping us celebrate the life of someone truly special.
