Markethill SCUBA Quarry is more than just a dive site. It is a place where divers train year-round, where new divers gain confidence, where search and recovery skills are practiced, and where members of the diving community come together to learn, improve, and support one another.
Over the years, the quarry has welcomed divers from across Ireland and beyond. It has also been used to support search and recovery training, helping volunteers develop skills that may one day assist families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Recently, our site was deliberately vandalised.
Life-saving equipment and disabled-access equipment were thrown into the water, infrastructure was damaged, and countless hours of volunteer work were undone in a matter of minutes. The financial cost of the damage currently exceeds £2,500, and that figure does not include the time and effort required to recover equipment, clean the site, and carry out repairs.
As a small, community-driven facility, this is a significant setback.
Every donation received will go directly towards:
Replacing damaged equipment
Recovering and repairing submerged items
Restoring disabled-access facilities
Improving site security
Continuing development of the quarry for training and recreational diving
We remain committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for divers, trainees, instructors, and visitors.
If you have ever visited Markethill SCUBA Quarry, trained here, enjoyed a dive here, or simply believe community facilities like this deserve to exist, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.
Whether you can donate £5 or £500, every contribution helps us rebuild and move forward.
Thank you for standing with us and helping restore Markethill SCUBA Quarry.
