Help Rebuild an American Veteran's Home: Stand with Marine Veteran Phillip Dunnell
Marine Corps Veteran Phillip Dunnell and his wife Stacy once celebrated the fulfillment of the American dream—homeownership in Biloxi, Mississippi. In August of 2020, their joy was tangible as they began their new chapter in a home they could call their own. However, this dream was soon challenged by the merciless winds of Hurricane Zeta, which severely damaged their sanctuary only two months later on October 28, 2020. Then followed by Hurricane Ida August 29, 2021, which destroyed the roof once again.
Despite their hardship, Phillip remained grateful they were unharmed, believing in brighter days ahead. Yet, the path to recovery was fraught with obstacles. After their insurance company issued a payout for repairs, the Dunnells faced the daunting task of rebuilding. They hired contractors, hoping to restore their home, but were met with deceit. Nearly $100,000 later, the contractors abandoned the project, leaving Phillip and Stacy with an uninhabitable home, their insurance payout gone and their savings depleted.
Despite these trials, Phillip's spirit of resilience prevails. Suffering from service-related health issues that leave him unable to physically renovate his home. Phillip is now fully disabled, struggling with service related conditions, and plagued with seizures that sap his strength and darken his hope of ever working on his home himself, or returning to his home at all. Yet Dunnell, faithfully makes his mortgage payments for a house he cannot live in.
Recognizing the gravity of their situation, we have reached out to numerous organizations for assistance. However, the help offered is often entangled in lengthy delays, with resolutions potentially taking years—time during which Phillip and Stacy’s home continues to deteriorate, risking the need for a complete rebuild.
This is where we, his Marine Corps family, step in. My son, Nathan Glidden, who served alongside Phillip Dunnell (who we lovingly call Dunnell), has been a pillar of support, sharing in his friend's struggles and dreams of one day reclaiming his home. Today, we are reaching out to you, our community, to rally around a fellow veteran who has given so much and is in dire need of our help.
Your contribution can light up Phillip and Stacy's world again. We aim to manage the restoration project directly, ensuring that every dollar raised goes directly toward making their home livable once again. No amount is too small, and every gesture of kindness brings Phillip closer to regaining his home and peace of mind.
Please consider donating to help Phillip Dunnell—a Marine, a husband, and a friend who has faced adversity with courage. Together, we can help restore not just a house, but a home filled with hope and heart.
Thank you for your generosity and support, Jan Croft & Nathan Glidden
