Help Save Little Zippy - The 5-Pound Miracle
Two years ago, when we lost George, our 10-pound street-rescue terrier, my husband Ian was devastated. After three weeks of silence and heartbreak, we adopted another rescue - Zippy, a 5-pound white Yorkie with the personality (and bark) of a Great Dane.
Zippy quickly became a local celebrity, greeting his “fans” from our window overlooking the street and saying hello to everyone at the local church where we water plants. He’s the kind of little dog who fills every space with joy.
The Accident:
On the morning of October 11th, around 10 a.m., Zippy was hit by a car in a one-in-a-million accident. We rushed him to VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group), who have been nothing short of amazing.
His condition was critical - no broken bones, no organ damage - but a collapsed lung made survival uncertain. After hours of waiting and tears, we faced a brutal decision: a risky $40,000 surgery, euthanasia, or a Hail Mary - manually venting gas from his chest and hoping the lung would re-inflate.
The Miracle
By 8 p.m. that night, against all odds, Zippy’s vitals began to normalize.
By 10 a.m. the next morning, there was no more air leakage, and talk of him coming home began. He’s not out of the woods yet, but he’s fighting - hard - and every sign points to recovery.
The Reality:
The bill has already reached $9,000 and is expected to climb to about $12,000 by the time he’s discharged.
We’ve already used every resource available, and thanks to incredible friends who stepped in with their credit card, Zippy’s care continued.
We’re now asking, humbly and with full hearts, for any help you can give. Every dollar will go directly to repay the person who covered the emergency charges.
From the Bottom of Our Hearts
“Thank you” doesn’t begin to cover it.
Because of love - and a little luck - Zippy will likely come home.
And because of people like you, we might actually be able to afford it.
With endless gratitude,
Robin & Ian
(and Zippy, the 5-Pound Miracle)
