Naiara's Volunteer Internship in India
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Naiara Menezes and I am in my first year of Global Development and Political Studies at Queen's University, Canada. This summer I will be one of the interns with Queen's Project on International Development (QPID) headed to Mumbai, India working for the NGO Vidya.
QPID is one of Queen's University's most prestigious clubs, working to promote development and change on a global scale. Vidya works to empower and transform the lives of women and children, through promoting programs, community and education. I will be supporting Vidya through volunteer work to create and implement educational programs and foster change with projects and policies.
I am extremely passionate about development work, especially with supporting women and children. My past experiences and projects include but are not limited to co-founding a female empowerment organization to create awareness surrounding women's health, rights, and jobs. Through my organization I organized a 250+ person conference, hosted fundraisers, facilitated menstrual product drives and much more. I also initiated a project called Majestic Music to encourage children's musical education and promote the importance of music in the community. My experiences have shown me the importance of engaging with communities, and developed my passion for change-making and social justice initiatives.
This is an unpaid internship, and I am responsible for covering a portion of my travel costs, while QPID will cover the rest. I will be in India from May till July and am requesting any support and donations to help fund my internship. I have included Vidya and QPID's websites for more information and insight on the work I will be doing, and their missions.
I hope to create long-lasting change through my work with Vidya this summer, and continue to foster projects to promote equity in the world. I truly appreciate any donations and support with this initiative!
