Josephine Phelan (Sutton) is a retired Business Studies-Computer Applications Teacher/Guidance Counsellor. Her husband Martin is a first cousin of Bishop John Ryan (Cormackstown, Holycross). Bishop Ryan is a member of St. Patrick's Missionary Society (Kiltegan). He has spent over 40 years in Northern Malawi working as a priest and also as Professor of Maths at Mzuzu University. He also set up an NGO - Ungweru - whose remit is to improve the lives of vulnerable people. An important part of Ungweru is Lusekelo School of Computing. Since 2014 Josephine has been visiting Mzuzu each year to teach in and improve standards in the computer school. Over 6 weeks students are given intensive tuition in Microsoft Office and Job Preparation Skills. All this is made possible by the generosity of extended family and friends of the Sutton and Phelan families.
