Memorial Bench for Troy Folkner
Donation protected
Troy Folkner, a beloved rider with the Western Wheelers, was lost in a tragic accident. He crashed on a Hills R Us ride on Los Gatos-Saratoga Road, northbound near Saratoga and passed away. We are still trying to recover from this heartbreaking accident.
Troy rode several days a week and made every ride more fun for his fellow riders. A very upbeat person, he was always ready with a light joke or something interesting to say. Just recently, he completed his yearly goal of riding ten thousand miles and climbing one million feet, with more than a third of that on club rides. We all enjoyed the great pictures Troy took on rides, using special lenses on his phone camera. (You can see them on his Strava pages.)
Dave Fitch is working with the town of Saratoga and their Trails Advisory Committee to install a bench on Highway 9 near the site of the crash. Most of the leg work is done and they are ready to proceed with the installation. We are using GoFundMe to raise the $1815 needed to cover the cost of the bench, and a plaque for Troy.

If we don't raise enough money for the bench, or if for any reason we hit a snag that prevents us from installing the bench, all contributions will be returned. If we collect more than the amount needed for the bench, any excess will be donated to the charitable organizations noted in Troy's obituary - Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Turning Wheels for Kids.
