Matt and Megan Fire Relief Fund
Donation protected
My brother Matt and his girlfriend Megan found out last night (9/28) via a video on twitter that their home in St. Helena was destroyed in a forest fire. They were evacuated from the area at 4am on Sunday morning. They had minutes to exit their home.
They are both safe, uninjured and staying at Megans moms home. I've been trying not to bother them much about the details or what the future might hold. I wanted to get this fund setup asap. They lost everything and though money can't fix that, it can help them plan for what's next.
They moved from Chicago to St. Helena California at the beginning of February this year. Megan immediately started a job working at Meadowood resort, which was also destroyed in the fires. They signed the lease for their new place on March 1st, a week before the pandemic shut down California restaurants and erased Matts Job prospects. Having left his Job in Chicago voluntarily, Matt was unable to receive any form of unemployment.
They made it through the last five months, in what we hoped would be one of the hardest challenges anyone might face. About a month ago, after 6 months of no income, Matt started a job helping to open a new restaurant in the area. Things were turning around. And then this.
Anything you can offer would greatly help.
