Metro Theatre Company's production of Hair has started rehearsals, with this being our largest production team yet, being produced, directed, acted, designed, and run by around 45 undergraduate students at UC Irvine!
Hair is the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical with books/lyrics by Georme Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt MacDermot. The show defined a generation of 1960s culture, covering themes of racism, sexual freedom, and the Vietnam War. Known for its iconic songs including “Aquarius,” and “Let the Sunshine In,” Hair represents a revolutionary story that reflects a time period of youth rebellion, love, identity, civil rights, and the anti-war movements, similar to that of today’s climate.
This production of Metro Theatre Company’s Hair aims to promote undergraduate students at UC Irvine by creating space and an opportunity for students who might not have the chance to otherwise. This show specifically speaks to our community through its in-depth themes of freedom and identity within the love of the tribe! At Metro Theatre Company, we aim to create a space where we talk openly about these hard topics and build a future that is ready to meet these challenges head on.
This cannot be done without your help!
Donations to this project will be used for set construction, props, and any other cost needed for the show. Anything not used for this specific show be allocated towards future Metro productions. Again, these projects are fully student run and used to create community, inspire others to pursue their art, and educate undergraduate students in an environment where opportunities may seem limited or restricted.
We hope you will consider donating to our fundraiser. At a time like this, the arts are extremely important to the livelihood and educational experience of students! Thank you!
