Hi, my name is Matthew Evans. I’m 19 years old, and in 2026 I’ve decided to take on a couple of endurance challenges that will push me far outside my comfort zone — both physically and mentally.
On June 7th, I’ll be competing in the Half Ironman Sardinia. It’s a 70.3-mile triathlon made up of a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride, and a 21.1 km run. Then, just a month later, I’ll be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats with my dad and a few family friends — around 874 miles over 10 days.
I’ve chosen these challenges because I wanted to do something genuinely hard, but also something that really means something. Training for these events has already pushed me in ways I didn’t expect, and doing them for a reason bigger than myself has made the whole journey far more meaningful.
The reason I’m doing this is Alzheimer’s Research UK. My grandad has dementia, and seeing how it has affected him and our family has been incredibly difficult. This fundraiser is my way of trying to turn that experience into something positive, and to help support the research that could make a difference for other families going through the same thing.
Any support at all — whether that’s a donation or simply sharing this page — genuinely means a lot. Thank you for taking the time to read this and support my journey.
If you would like to watch the journey, I am documenting this on my instagram account — matthew_evans2006.
