Legal fund for my brother with special needs

My brother, Steve, has special needs and has been under a court-ordered guardianship since 1992. We grew up together, and we’ve always shared a close bond. I want to look out for him and make sure he can live his life as fully and happily as possible. Unfortunately, I do not believe his current guardianship and living situation make this possible. Steve has not been able to see me, our mother, and our family since January of 2020. We only get to speak to Steve for about 5 minutes each week, and these conversations do not feel open and free, like they used to be.

Unfortunately, Steve’s current guardians have petitioned to change the nature of Steve’s visitation with us. I am very worried that Steve may never be able to see me, our mom, or his niece and nephew ever again – either here in CA or even if we visit MN! I have filed a petition to remove his current guardians and to appoint me as his guardian, so that I can make sure that Steve’s rights are protected. I have hired a compassionate and knowledgeable lawyer, but the litigation costs are very high. As Steve’s sister, I need to have a lawyer to help me protect Steve and his relationship with our family. All funds raised through this GoFundMe will be used directly for my attorney fees and court costs.
