After many prayers, long nights of reflection, and the support of family and friends, I’ve reached one of the hardest points in my life. I’ve officially hit rock bottom and am close to withdrawing from medical school, something I never imagined saying.
I’ve written and rewritten this post for weeks, along with drafting a withdrawal letter to my school. Those who know me know I’m not a quitter. I’ve overcome every obstacle life has thrown my way, but this time, I need help.
Leaving my 12-year career as a paramedic to become a physician was one of the hardest decisions I ever made. But now I’m facing an even tougher one: continuing my dream or walking away because of finances.
I would never create a GoFundMe unless it was absolutely necessary. After 3½ years of medical school, I’ve completely exhausted my savings, maxed out credit cards, and even taken a second mortgage on my mother’s home to financially stay afloat. My mom has been my rock. But she is now retired, and I refuse to put more strain on her finances.
Recently, I picked up a part-time job (something strongly discouraged in med school), but it was either that or face eviction.
Right now, I’m down to two options: drop out of medical school or file for bankruptcy.
I’m less than 8 months from graduating! But my student loans have hit their limit, and there’s no more financial aid available. I just need a little help getting to the finish line.
I’m asking for two forms of support: monetary assistance and donations for my next medical mission.
1) Monetary Assistance: Your donations will help cover:
- Housing, food, and basic living costs
- Student loan and credit card bills
- Travel expenses for 4th-year clinical rotations. Fourth-year rotations require moving every ~2 months, often to new cities, meaning short-term rentals or Airbnbs (which are incredibly expensive).
- After graduation in June 2026, I’ll have a one-year gap before residency. During that time, I’ll be completing my second master’s degree (which the school covers), but I won’t receive student loans for living expenses.
Every dollar truly helps keep me in school.
2) Medical & Children’s Supplies – Kenya Mission 2026
- I’m planning to return to St. Luke’s Orthopaedic Trauma Hospital in Kenya to continue supporting the hospital, local families, and children. I’m collecting medical and personal supplies.
- Medical: insulin needles, bandages, IV supplies, sharps containers, sanitary wipes, crutches, etc. (expired items are OK!)
- Kids’ items: coloring books, crayons, toys, sports equipment, makeup, and small gifts
These items won’t be needed until summer 2026, so if you can donate, please hold onto them or contact me for pickup later on.
Finally, this was not an easy post to write, but I know I have an amazing support system behind me. Many of you have been with me from the beginning, and I can't thank you enough.
Every bit of encouragement, whether it's text messages, phone calls, or prayers, has helped more than you could ever know. I’m almost at the finish line. I just need a little help getting across it.
From the bottom of my heart...thank you.
Your support truly means the world to me.
