We're Heather and Spencer, parents to furry four legged feral pups, Apollo and Artemis. Artemis is new to the family, our almost 1 year old female Australian Cattle Dog. Apollo is our 10 year old male Australian Cattle Dog. Apollo (and us) need ya'lls help.

Around four months ago Apollo went into his primary vet for his annual dental. Thirty minutes after dropping him off the vet clinic called me stating he had abnormal elevated liver enzyme levels and putting him under anesthesia at that time could result in him passing on the table, saying the worst of the worst. They suggested that I do a liver panel to make sure his liver was still working as it should, and it has been. We've since then were referred to a specialty vet who has since then conducted an ultrasound to check for any masses, which they found, thankfully it is only one. We then had them do a ultrasound led non-invasive biopsy to check to see if the mass was cancerous or not. We got the results back this past Monday (11/17/25), the biopsy that was sent off was positive for a cancerous growth on an accessory lobe on his liver. The vets are in high hopes and say due to how healthy he is otherwise, if there are no complications here on out, removing this mass will have our boy cancer free once more.

Our next steps for him are a CT scan, to make sure the mass is accessible and safe to go in and remove surgically. If and when we get the results back and they give us the go ahead we will be scheduling Apollo for a liver lobectomy to get the cancer out. After tax and these procedures the bill keeps growing.

To know Apollo is to love him, even if he's peed on your suede shoes when he was a puppy (sorry again Josh!) Everyone who knows us, knows him, or at least knows of him. He's our goofy, adventurous, sassy lover boy. All he wants to do in life is force strangers and friends to cuddle him, go on long hikes, swim until his paws are soggy, bark at rocks, chase skateboards and nip at heels of roller derby athletes. We adopted him at 6 weeks old from the wildest woman on the Georgia/ Florida/ Alabama line and he has been with us through a cross-country move, where we learned that he loves snow, and a closer move, where we learned he's a soft pawed city dog and does not like goat heads. We plan our vacations around him so he can come along with us, because after all, it is his first time living too. I know I'm biased and everyone says this about their pets, but he truly is the best boy in the universe.

Spence and I are both from the south where when your dog's sick, you take him out back and do what needs to be done. But we're also both millennials and will do everything in our power to keep our Apollo healthy and continuing on with his adventures.
