Hello! My name is Trevor Hancock. I am 19 years old and currently a sophomore at Milwaukee School of Engineering, where I’m majoring in computer science and minoring in math and cybersecurity.

Programming is perfect for me. I love the logic of it and how it feels like solving a puzzle. That’s why I chose computer science after only taking a single programming class, and I’m so glad I did. I’m still figuring out where in the field I’d like to focus — right now I’m interested in game development, freelancing, or becoming a data engineer.

Since my junior year of high school, I’ve worked full-time every summer and saved as much as I can while still letting myself have some fun. I’ve also worked part-time during the school year when possible, though balancing work and classes is really hard. Even with scholarships, summer jobs, and careful saving, the costs of college are still more than I can cover.

That’s why I set this goal at $6,500 — the amount I can take out in federal student loans. I’m doing my best to stay out of debt, but this year even those loans won’t fully cover my expenses. Private loans are even worse with higher interest rates, so I’m hoping to limit that burden as much as I can.

If this goal is met — or even partially met — it would allow me to focus more on my studies, reduce the number of hours I have to work during the school year, and get more involved in on-campus clubs. It would also give me more time to pursue internships, which are important for getting experience in my field early. And as a fun little bonus, if the goal is reached, I will commit to regrowing my hair out to the length it was in the picture attached to my donation page!
