*Help Us Support Our Mom and Save Our Family Farm*
Dear family, friends, and kind-hearted strangers,
We are reaching out to share our mom's difficult journey and to seek your compassionate support. Our incredible mother has been battling serious health challenges since 2020, challenges which have gotten rapidly worse over the past 6 months.
A herniated disc is causing progressive weakness and pain in her left leg and foot. She also is suffering from damage in her right arm and shoulder.
Mom is currently scheduled for back surgery on August 28th to address the bulging herniated disc, followed by two possible surgeries to repair her arm and shoulder.
Health insurance does not cover all her medical expenses, nor the help she will need in the home as she recovers. She lost her job last November, and based on circumstances out of her control, she did not qualify for unemployment nor disability. So our family farm is her only source of income. The Vanderveer-Campbell farm has been in our family for 263 years, but it doesn’t currently generate enough income to cover her lost wages and medical expenses.
Because our mom was denied unemployment benefits, we three kids have had to also help support her with our entry level jobs. The financial strain has snowballed along with her intense physical pain, and we’re all struggling to help her keep up with bills, taxes, and mortgage payments.
As a result, we are at risk of losing the farm. The farm is our home, our legacy, and our mother's side income. But with the mortgage banker’s looming threats, the situation is dire. We are deeply concerned about losing our home—the only place we know and love. And a place that has been an extension of our community and a safe haven for school children for over a century. Our great grandma used to bring kids out from NYC for the Fresh Air Fund program, and our mom has volunteered our entire lives with programs here for school children, including 8 school years worth of 3rd graders from our township that came to learn about what it was to be a 3rd grader 100 years ago. We want to continue to offer our farm up for learning opportunities for years to come.
Therefore, we are asking for your help with our mom's medical expenses and to alleviate the overall financial burden she currently faces. Your support will enable our mom to focus on healing and recovery. It will also provide us with the peace of mind we desperately need to maintain our historic family farm and home.
We know with support she will regain her strength and return to being the amazing, strong, loving mother we all love and cherish.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering our plea. Your kindness means the world to us and will make a profound difference in our lives.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Emilia, Isabel, and Phil
