Help Keep Leitrim Animal Welfare Open

As the colder months approach, we are facing unprecedented challenges at Leitrim Animal Welfare. Costs are skyrocketing across the board, from veterinary care to diesel for transport, electricity, cleaning supplies, and food.

In the past few weeks alone, many rescues have been forced to close their doors due to the overwhelming costs and lack of funding.

We are determined not to be next—but we need your help to stay operational.

Since the end of August, we have taken in 133 dogs, each requiring medical care, food, and shelter. Heartbreakingly, we’ve had to turn away 122 surrender requests simply because we do not have the space, resources, or funds to care for them.

Every dog that comes through our doors is wormed, microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered or spayed—an essential part of the care we provide, but a significant expense.

As we move into winter, the situation is only worsening. With darker evenings and colder weather, calls for dog surrenders and reports of abandonment are increasing.

We fear this could be the most difficult year for rescues in Ireland.
