As many of you know, Tylan was recently in a serious motorbike accident that has left him with life-changing injuries.

On January 22nd, Ty, through no fault of his own, was in a collision with another motorbike on the 311 highway in Dubai. A delivery driver performed an illegal crossing of a motorway slip road to save some time, slipping through a gap in the cones that separate the motorway from the slip road and cutting across the slip road at a right angle. Ty was travelling down the slip road and by the time he noticed the delivery driver, it was too late to avoid the collision.

As well as a broken arm, broken and dislocated ribs and a severe injury to his left heel, Ty was left with a fractured T6 and T7 vertebrae - resulting in complete paralysis from the rib cage down.

Ty has been treated by fantastic medical staff at the Parkview Mediclinic hospital in Dubai, but unfortunately they have delivered the news that there is a chance of him remaining paralysed and confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. If you know Ty, you will know that if anybody is likely to beat the odds, it is him but it will take time.

On top of trying to process the upcoming changes to their lives, Ty and his partner Lydia are also having to juggle the stress of the mounting medical bills and make a plan of how to cover them.

Unlike the UK, Dubai does not have a National Health System and because Ty is a South African ex-pat, there is no government support. There will possibly be a pay-out from the liable parties' insurance, but this could take months if not years.

At the moment Ty's medical bill stands at 350,000AED [approx £79,000] and the estimated cost of rehabilitation is 120,000AED a month [£27,100] - it is unknown how many months he will need, but it will most likely be at least three months.

There is also the upcoming cost of a wheelchair, vehicle conversion and accessibility kit for his home, all estimated at 40,000AED [£9,000]

On top of this, Ty will be out of employment for at least a year so Lydia will be responsible for all utilities and bills.

For those that know Ty, his whole life has been dedicated to fitness and sport. This news would have been enough to send most of us to a dark place but we have all been amazed at Ty's constant optimism and positivity over the last few weeks - his strength has been nothing but inspirational.

We know that covering the complete cost of his care will be an almost impossible target but if we can raise enough to help towards some of the smaller costs, it would be a great help to the both of them.

Ty has promised to dedicate his upcoming 'Road to Recovery' memoir to everyone who donates!

Thank you,

Lydia, Stacey, Ross, Sam and Jodie
