Help Tunde Heal: Surgery and Therapy Needed
Donation protected

On October 30th, 2024, my life changed forever when I was involved in a devastating car accident. I'm Babatunde Ogundokun-Ayanda, known as Tunde or BJ to my friends and family. The crash left me trapped in the driver's seat with my phone destroyed. I managed to crawl out of the wreckage, but immediately knew something was terribly wrong when I couldn't put any weight on my right knee.
At Calvert Health Medical Hospital, the diagnosis was far worse than I had imagined: a severe Type 6 tibial plateau fracture with knee dislocation, a sprained wrist, and multiple injuries across my body. The trauma was so severe that my right leg swelled to four times the size of my left, with the dislocation visibly disfiguring my knee.
Two days after the accident, I underwent emergency open reduction surgery to stabilize the bones, but this was only the beginning of my journey. I now face 4-8 weeks of strict bed rest, completely unable to bear any weight on my injured leg. The road to recovery requires another crucial surgery and extensive physical therapy, but I've hit a devastating roadblock: my medical insurance isn't adequately covering these essential treatments.
While my family is doing everything they can to help, they're stretched thin trying to balance their own work commitments with my round-the-clock care needs. My insurance only covers one hour of daily care assistance, leaving me alone and helpless for most of the day. The mounting medical bills, paired with my inability to work, have created an overwhelming financial burden that's preventing me from accessing the care I desperately need to heal.
I've always been someone who finds it difficult to ask for help, but I've reached a point where I can no longer face this challenge alone. Any contribution, no matter how small, would make a meaningful difference in my recovery journey. Your support would help cover:
- Essential surgery costs
- Physical therapy sessions
- Daily care assistance
- Basic living expenses during recovery
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your generosity, prayers, and support mean the world to me during this difficult time. God bless you all.
UPDATE 11/14: Was able to get the surgery scheduled for next to Thursday by the grace of God. However, insurance is only covering a portion of the bill while we are left we the medical expenses of the rest and hospital staying fees. Will update after Surgery to get an accurate amount.
Update: recieved the estimate on coverage for surgery and stay, total will be $18,000. Discussing with my insurance with how much they are covering.
Update: Received the surgery and they put screws and a plate in my knee. Pain is unbearable but by the grace of God, the road to recovery has began.
Update: 11/26 after being in the hospital for 5 days, I am finally discharged and back home for outpatient status
