Two years ago, Peaches beat the impossible. She survived neurological FIP, a disease once considered untreatable, and became a symbol of hope for families around the world. Before her diagnosis, her vet handed us her limp body and said she was passing away — and no one knew why. I rushed her to the ER, and that night began the fight that would save her life.
Now, two years later, Peaches faces a new challenge — restrictive cardiomyopathy, a rare heart condition that causes dangerous fluid buildup around her heart. She has already endured full heart failure once and had to be rushed to the ER again to save her life. After oxygen therapy and multiple specialist consultations, her care team has determined that she needs surgery to remove the thickened sac around her heart so it can beat freely again.
This procedure, called a subtotal pericardiectomy, will be performed by Dr. Steven Neihaus, a board-certified veterinary surgeon known for his expertise with complex and high-risk cases. Her doctors believe this surgery will relieve pressure around her heart, prevent future fluid buildup, and help her enjoy a more stable, comfortable life.
Peaches has already survived the unimaginable — twice. Once from FIP, and once from heart failure. She is truly a twice-miracle survivor, and this next step will give her the chance to keep writing her remarkable story.
