Help Restore the Our Lady of Fatima Prayer Garden!
My name is Penny Williams, and I am a BSA Scout with Troop 19 in Short Hills, New Jersey. I've been a member for more than five years, and am working on my Eagle Project: restoring an Our Lady of Fatima prayer garden for the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary is a Monastery in Summit, New Jersey.
The cloistered nuns that live in this monastery devote their lives to prayer, work, and study. They spend approximately two hours each day deep in prayer, as well as studying the word of God. Because they are cloistered, they are separated from the outside world—literally and figuratively. This enables them to devote themselves entirely to focusing on the Word of God without the hinderances posed by the outside world.
The monastery has prayer garden available to the general public that features a shrine to Our Lady of Fatima. Over time, this garden has begun to show the effects of weather and age, and because they are cloistered, it is difficult for the nuns to properly upkeep it.
My project centers on the improvement of this garden by preparing the garden for winter and planting flora that will hibernate through the winter and bloom in the spring. I will be taking action with this the weekend of October 25th and 26th. I am raising money to buy the plants and supplies needed. If extra funds are raised, they will be donated directly to the monastery.
Thank you for your consideration and donation! Every little bit helps!
