Fix the Gap. Build Our Community.
Along a short stretch of Lawrence St in Houston Heights, families with strollers, children walking to daycare, church visitors, and neighbors are regularly forced into the street because the sidewalk is broken and missing.
The project area sits between a daycare, a church, Lawrence Park, and surrounding homes. The missing sidewalk connection creates daily accessibility and safety challenges for people trying to move through the neighborhood on foot.
A group of nearby residents, daycare parents, church stakeholders, and community advocates have come together to organize a solution locally rather than waiting years for the issue to be addressed.
This effort is being coordinated alongside A Tale of Two Bridges, a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on safer, more connected, and more walkable neighborhoods.
What Funds Will Support
Funds raised will help cover:
- sidewalk demolition and replacement
- grading and accessibility improvements
- project materials
Current project estimates place the total cost $2,400
A completed sidewalk connection would:
- improve safety for children and families
- create safer stroller and wheelchair access
- strengthen pedestrian connectivity between nearby destinations
- improve access to the daycare, church, and Lawrence Park
- support a more walkable neighborhood environment
The group also hopes this project can serve as a model for future community-led infrastructure improvements elsewhere in the neighborhood.
