Help Neskantaga Youth Take the Trip of a Lifetime

Donation protected
Youth in Neskantaga First Nation will soon embark on the trip of a lifetime. For over a year, members of Neskantaga First Nation, including Education Director Tony Sakanee and Lead Organizer Anita Quisses, have been planning this leadership-building opportunity, which will take place January 31 to February 5, 2024, in Toronto, Ontario. Our aim is to inspire hope and foster self-esteem and positive mental health among our future leaders.

You may know that Neskantaga First Nation is an isolated, remote fly-in community with roughly 300 community members living on-reserve. We are a strong and proud community who have had our share of adversity – from enduring the longest-standing boil water advisory in Canada, to many other health, social, economic, and educational challenges. However, our people are resilient, and our youth deserve this exciting personal development experience.

In Toronto, our youth will attend world-class events such as the NHL All-Star Skills Competition and Game, and experience iconic landmarks including Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum – and more, if time and funding permit.

To date, our organizing committee has managed to purchase two spectator suites, with a combined occupancy of 40 participants, for both the NHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition events. We have also purchased 30 guest rooms and the number of airline tickets for our youth and their chaperones.

We're hoping to raise an additional $100,000 for remaining costs, including meals, ground transportation, attraction admission fees, etc., which require additional fundraising and support. This is where your generosity can make a difference in the lives of our youth.

We are grateful for your time and consideration and appreciate any financial contribution you can make in support of Neskantaga youth.

Chi-Miigwetch,

Neskantaga First Nation
