Help Us Make Klaus’s Final Days Comfortable

Hi friends,

This last Monday morning, life took an unexpected and heartbreaking turn. My sweet dog Klaus, who’s been an angel on this earth for 10 incredible years, suddenly wasn’t himself. What started as a slow morning turned into an emergency vet visit—and a diagnosis no pet parent ever wants to hear.

Klaus has splenic hemangiosarcoma—a fast-moving, aggressive cancer. His spleen has already ruptured and he’s bleeding internally. Right now, we’re treating him with blood clotting medication while we wait on lab results to confirm what we already suspect: the tumor is malignant.

This is especially difficult for Josh as when he finished his deployment in Iraq, he got Klaus as a puppy. Klaus picked Josh and has been a legendary companion to Josh and to myself.

Even if surgery were an option, the odds are stacked against us. Best case scenario with surgery is maybe six months to a year, and he’s already weak. We don’t want to put him through something so invasive only to buy a little time—time that may be painful or filled with stress.

So we’ve made the heartbreaking choice to focus on keeping Klaus comfortable, loved, and peaceful in his final days. The vet has recommended blood clotting medication and a specific mushroom supplement called Im-Yunity to help ease his symptoms and extend his comfort. These medications are costly, and while we’re doing everything we can to manage it, we could really use some help. We've already spent $700 on the meds.
