The sequence of bad events in the life of my friend Gisele began in March 2019. On the night of her 36th birthday, the apartment where she lived with two people and two kittens caught fire in the middle of the night. She lost not only her material possessions, but also the pets, which did not survive the fire.
Two months later she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which had already spread to her liver. Because of this metastasis, her first oncologist said her chances of survival were nil.
In 18 months of treatment, she had 30 sessions of chemotherapy. During this period, the cancer spread to the right breast. Even fighting the disease, Gisele continued working as a waitress in a restaurant in the city of Boca Raton in Florida. Her focus was to save her salary to bear the costs of reconstructive surgery, but the pandemic drastically reduced her income.
In January 2021, Gisele underwent radical mastectomy surgery, a traumatic procedure that removed her two breasts.
Currently she is in the recovery phase, taking care not to develop lymphedema (accumulation of fluid in the arm and swelling due to the absence of the lymphatic system).
For her breast reconstruction, 2 to 3 plastic surgeries will be necessary, because her case is so complex.
She got free cancer treatment from a hospital charity, but unfortunately reconstructive breast surgery is not included.

Dois meses depois ela foi diagnosticada com câncer de mama em estágio 4, que já havia se espalhado para o fígado. Por causa dessa metástase, sua primeira oncologista disse que suas chances de sobrevivência eram nulas.
Em 18 meses de tratamento, ela fez 30 sessões de quimioterapia; Durante esse período o câncer se espalhou para a mama direita. Mesmo lutando contra a doença, Gisele seguiu trabalhando como garçonete em um restaurante na cidade de Boca Raton na Flórida. Seu foco era poupar seu salário para arcar com os custos da cirurgia reconstrutiva, porém a pandemia reduziu sua renda drasticamente.
Em Janeiro de 2021, Gisele foi submetida à uma cirurgia de mastectomia radical, um procedimento traumatizante que removeu seus dois seios.
Atualmente ela se encontra na fase de recuperação, tomando cuidado para não desenvolver linfedema (acúmulo de líquidos no braço e inchaço, devido à ausência do sistema linfático).
Para reconstrução mamária, serão necessárias 2 a 3 cirurgias plásticas, pois seu caso é complexo.
Ela conseguiu tratamento contra o câncer gratuito pela caridade de um hospital, porém, infelizmente, a cirurgia reconstrutiva dos seios não está inclusa.
