As many of you may know, Matt Hutmacher passed away on May 3, 2017, unexpectedly at the age of 47. On that fateful morning, Matt arrived at work bright and early, as he usually did. Later that morning he walked into the office of one of his employees where he complained he wasn't feeling well and then collapsed. The paramedics arrived in less than 10 minutes but, despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive him. It was later confirmed that Matt died from an aortic dissection, a condition when the inner layer of the aorta tears, causing blood to surge through and separate the inner and middle layers of the aorta, and in fatal cases, ruptures the outside aortic wall.
Matt is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Carey, and their two children, James (10 yrs) and Ella (8 yrs). I have known Matt for over 22 years as his mentor, colleague, research/business partner and most importantly, his friend. Matt had a brilliant mind and a passion for pharmacometrics applications. He leaves this world with a legacy of research accomplishments that are recognized globally within the pharmacometrics community. He left us at the prime of his career and no doubt had many more productive years ahead of him contributing to the advancement of pharmacometrics methodology.
I am asking that anyone who knew Matt, particularly, those within the pharmacometrics community, consider making a donation to the Hutmacher family in their time of need. The loss of his income over the next 15 – 20 years creates a huge financial burden for his family. Matt and Carey’s children are grade school age and these donations could assist funding James and Ella’s college education. In addition, their home is currently undergoing a major renovation, and the family is living at a rental property. These funds could also be used to assist them in getting these renovations completed so that they can return to the safety and comfort of their own home.
Matt’s wife, Carey Hutmacher, will be the beneficiary of the funds raised.
Thank You,
