Help Archie Recover: Support for Vet Bills

Donazione protetta
As many of you know, I usually do these for one of my fosters, but today I’m asking for help for one of my own. On Wednesday, my youngest daughter came to tell me Archie, our dog, was not feeling well, and she was right. Archie started vomiting and was acting like he was in a lot of pain. I took a look in his mouth to make sure there was not anything there and then I looked at and felt his body. Unfortunately, as I came toward his stomach, I saw how big it was and it felt like it was bloated.

As a child, I had a large dog die from bloat and I have never forgotten it. We rushed Archie to Metropolitan Vet. They took him back right away. While we waited in the waiting room, they ran tests and confirmed my suspicions that it was bloat. The girls and I were beside ourselves and Morley kept saying it was her fault. This was no one’s fault. Metro quoted us $6,500-$8500 to take him into surgery and help him. When we could not come up with half of this amount, they told us to “lay him to rest.” There was no way we were going to walk out without him. They refused to give us any other options.

Maddy was very persistent and kept asking the vet “what other options are there? There has to be another option!” Finally, after asking 4 times, we were told about Wissahickon Creek Veterinary Hospital. Then told by Metro's vet that they probably wouldn’t help us either. Maddy got on the phone and was speaking to them in minutes! They would take Archie and would do his surgery for $2500. We told Metro and they took another hour to release him to our care. We did not get to Wissahickon until after 5 PM. We had gotten to Metro around 1:30 PM. Wissahickon took him straight back and started his operation.

Since Archie was so delayed in getting to them, he ended up hemorrhaging. So not only was his abdomen full with gas but it was also filled with blood. He has 2 small spots that are necrotic. Every single person at Wissahickon vet was so wonderful and saved Archie’s life!! I cannot put into words how grateful we are to them! Archie is home now and recovering. We still owe about $1280 between the two vets. We were able to pay $1500 to get him into surgery. Please help us pay down the vet bill for him. He is still going to need a follow-up visit and is on a ton of medications. No amount is too little. We are just happy to have some help for our guy!

Archie is a vital part of our family and a vital part of our fostering journey. Because of him, we have been able to get so many cats, kittens, puppies, and dogs adopted. He has opened so many more homes to them. If you can donate, we would greatly appreciate it. ❤️
