Havilah's Healing
Donation protected
My sister (my second Mama and a Mama to every child in her neighborhood), Havilah Shoptaw, has recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer. As unexpected and life-toppling as this is for her, she's taken to it w an attitude of triumph. We tell her all the time that she is the strongest woman we know and this trial proves the same. In November 2019, she married the love of her life, Nathan .. a man who waited for her for 13 years! She finally gave in! Haha Now, just over two months later, they are dealing with the most devastating news of their lives. Havilah and Nathan have two sons who are 12 and 16 - whose mom is their entire world and likewise, she lives for those two boys and always has. Being a single mom for the majority of their lives, they've forged a bond that nothing can break; not even cancer.
One thing Havi could never afford was insurance. She fell right on the line of making too much to qualify for aid and making too little to concede to paying $500+ a month in premiums for just herself. Being married, she and her husband face the same problem though they're still daily trying to find the right one for them .. not only that but one that will now accept her w a pre-existing condition. Insurance is so dang high.
Going forward through this journey, they will have an outstanding number of medical bills that will be quite high. We aren't exactly sure how high yet, but I have set this GoFundMe at a number that gives everyone an idea of what we are expecting. If any of our family or friends have been wanting to help Havilah through her battle with cancer but haven't known how, this is honestly the best way. Give a dollar or give one hundred. Anything helps so much right now.
One thing she keeps saying is how much she wants God to be proven through this. Yeah, it sucks. It super sucks. I can't believe my big sister who taught me how to pluck my eyebrows (Mom, please hide those early pictures), how not to let boys take advantage of me, and how to always smile in the face of adversity, has cancer. But she smiles still. She hopes still. She loves still. And I know she is gonna kick this cancer's butt.
Please, if you can, help us help her alleviate even a small portion of the weight of this sickness. Anything and everything you do, I know she appreciates more than words could ever say. If nothing else, share and pray. God can do anything and I know she believes that.
Thank you friends!
