Grandma Judy Needs a Friend

Hi there. As many of you know, my grandma is my best friend. I've written about our relationship in articles. I've spoken about how much she inspires me to anyone who will listen. She was my mother figure growing up, my teacher, and my protector. I love her with all my being.

Today I got a call that Grandma is in the hospital with congestive heart failure. She asked me not to come down; she knows that I struggle to make money in the field of writing. But then she called me back sometime later to let me know they've found bleeding somewhere in her body. She wants me to come now. She's scared.

I am asking the community to help me fund an emergency trip from Massachusetts to Arkansas so I can be with her during this difficult time. I am her only living, non-incarcerated immediate family member. This is a desperate situation.

I know I have asked a lot of my community, and you have provided an incredible safety net for me in the hardest of times. I'm asking again, this time with urgency. I am so grateful for every little thing you can send my way, even if it's just a dollar or two. I'll be putting immediate expenses on my credit card. I've just bought a $585 one-way ticket, and that will be just the first of my expenses.
