Every week volunteers on the Greek island of Lemnos fight to care for abandoned and mistreated dogs. But now, they are facing an obstacle that could soon make their work impossible.

The road leading to the Lemnos Dog Shelter is in terrible condition — a rough, crumbling gravel path filled with deep holes and sharp stones. Every trip to the shelter damages the volunteers’ private cars and puts them at risk. With autumn rain and the cold winter ahead, the road will soon become nearly impassable.

If the volunteers can’t reach the shelter, the dogs will lose their only connection to the outside world — their only chance to feel love, to move freely, and to experience a few minutes of joy beyond the bars of their cages. These moments of affection, play and human presence are the only thing that break the isolation of their 24/7 cage lives.

The volunteers have pleaded with the local authorities for help, but no support has come. They are left on their own — just like the dogs they rescue.

That’s why I am reaching out to you. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help buy materials and hire local workers to make the road safe and passable again.

Your donation will not only fix a road — it will keep hope alive for the animals who depend on these incredible people.

❤️ Please help us keep the road open — and the shelter alive ❤️

My name is Sandra Kubicek (Sweden) and a few months ago I visited the Greek island of Lemnos and the Lemnos dog shelter - poorly operated by the municipality. What I saw broke my heart - the dogs live in harsh conditions and the facilities are in a deeply inadequate state in every possible way. The only thing that keeps the dogs spirit and hope alive are the dedicated volunteers who come as often as they can to give them love, care, walks and a glimpse of the outside world. I have decided to do everything in my power to support the amazing work of these people and the precious dogs. I am a volunteer at the Swedish non-profit organization called "Föreningen Grekiska Gatuhundar" (www.grekiskagatuhundar.com) which helps dogs from different Greek dog shelters, including Lemnos, finding loving forever homes in Sweden.
