We are a group of people who have worked with Nicole & Alex for many years. They are lovebirds that got married just months after Nicole’s diagnosis of a brain tumor. Their future together thought to be long and full of children, as well as, caring for her adult brother who has Downs Syndrome (they purchased a house with a complete downstairs so he could move in when ready).
She has been such a pillar of strength, not listening to prognostic factors, going full speed ahead with a confident and positive attitude.
It seemed as though everything was working, the radiation ✅, chemotherapy ✅, clinical trials ✅. Nicole and Alex’s love, family love, friends love, coworkers love, and of course love from their very devoted, special, dog Sparkles could not overcome the nastiness of her glioblastoma. They have had a beautiful wedding and have made many other great memories since the diagnosis.
They have been trying to manage all this time on one paycheck (Alex works at the Northshore Academy Lower School, as behavior support, then after school program, and he finishes his day after cleaning the school, and Nicole used to work as a paraprofessional at the Kevin O’Grady School both programs of The Northshore Education Consortium) Nicole has been looking forward to when she could get back to the work she loved.
The bills don’t recognize that these two wonderful, young people have been devastated. The news came last night, the words and MRI cannot be disputed, 4-6 months left.
Four to six months? How do you squeeze in a lifetime in that amount of time? They are incredible people who spend their time not only working with children who have special needs but they also organize Track and Field activities and tournaments for Special Olympics.
Alex and Nicole are counting on the income from Alex working 12 hours a day to manage their basic lifestyle. Although NEC is doing what they can to support Nicole, Alex and their family, we would like to raise enough money to reduce the pressure on Alex, and enable him to take an extended leave of absence without worrying about finances, so that he can concentrate on his loving wife of only one year for their last journey together. We are sure there will be many unforeseen/unprepared expenses that will arise. Please do not think any donation is too small. It takes a village. Let’s be their village.
