Help my Dad fight brain cancer

We are raising money to save Farid’s life to raise funds for an experimental drug and help him in his fight against Brain Cancer.

 

Unfortunately, my father, Farid (Abu Fadi), was recently diagnosed in November, with the most aggressive and rare type of brain cancer – Diffuse Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) and with only few months prognosis. Due to its diffuse nature and it’s location in the brainstem, this kind of cancer has been deemed incurable/inoperable. The NHS doctors have ruled out a biopsy and any type of treatment such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy and they have only offered ‘supportive care’, which has been devastating news for us to hear.

 

This disease is very aggressive, at the start of the month he was able to walk and talk. We noticed that his speech had become a little slurred, and we recommended him to go the hospital, after performing CT scan, which found nothing he was discharged home. After 10 days he was unable to get out of the bed, after calling the ambulance and performing an MRI scan, they found that he had several lesions in the brainstem and diagnosed it as GBM. He has been in the hospital for over 3 weeks now, he’s unable to speak, swallow and unable to move his left side of his body. He is still alert and aware of his surroundings.

 

Many of you that know my father, he is well known in the community and he is a good, strong, active and hardworking man, always sacrificing himself for other people including myself. He does not deserve what is happening to him, it is heart breaking. He's worried and doesn’t want to die, he is going through torture everyday.

 

This page is in order to fund for a new cancer drug called ONC201. This is an experimental drug used in clincial trials and has shown to be effective in glioma patients as it has the ability to cross the brain barrier and destroy tomour cells, while sparing healthy cells. Unfortunately this drug is not available in the UK or the NHS, therefore we have to source it privately from Germany. This costs £1020 a week, with the consultations, and import taxes of £613.43, it will be around £4000-£4500 a month, which is difficult amount to source each month. We are experimenting with 3-4 months of this drug and if we see there is any improvements in the MRI and his neurological symptoms, then we will need to continue this treatment lifelong.

 

This has been the most devastating news for me and my family. I am suffering everyday knowing my father does not have long left. We really hope that this drug can help to extend my father’s life.
