BCT - Barnard General Store Building Fundraiser

($10,000.00 MATCHING FUNDS AVAILABLE!) Since 1832, The Barnard General Store ("BGS") has been serving the community of Barnard, Vermont, as well as all the visitors from near and far coming to enjoy the beauty of our village and nearby Silver Lake Park.

 

In 2012, the Barnard Community Trust ("BCT") was formed to help save our beloved BGS after it had closed. By the end of 2013, the BCT, in partnership with the Preservation Trust of Vermont had raised $650,000.00 to help save and preserve the Barnard General Store, which is both the beating heart of our community as well as a vital part of Vermont's rural history. The BCT found a young couple ready to buy, own, and operate the retail store housed in the building, and the rest is history! As it stands now, the BCT owns the building, leases it to the BGS, and the BCT remains committed to preserving the structure as a vibrant and authentic Vermont general store into the future.

 

10 years after its founding, the BCT is just as busy preserving this beautiful building as ever, and unfortunately - the needs of a 200 year old building are many! There are numerous maintenance and repair issues facing the BGS that need attention now, or in the near future, so the BCT is launching another fundraising campaign, and we need your help. If you have ever grabbed a sandwich, a soda, a couple scoops of ice cream, or a bowl of soup in the middle of winter, we ask for your help in keeping this vital and historic community resource alive. NOTE that the BCT is a 501(c)(3) organization, so YOUR DONATION IS 100% TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

 

A member of our community has already generously committed to match $1 to every $4 raised, up to $10,000.00, making our goal that much easier to reach! Whether you have loved the BGS your whole life, or just for a single afternoon, we humbly ask for your help in keeping this beautiful building alive and healthy for the next 200 years! Funds raised will go to the treasury of the BCT for the preservation of the BGS and other key historic community features.
