My name is Essex and I have set up this fundraiser for my little brother James. 6 years ago while completing his Honours in Theoretical Nuclear Physics, at 22 years old, James was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma (alveolar rabdomyosarcoma) in his spine and foot, and after surgery, 18 months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy he went into remission. Unfortunately, in August 2021, a routine scan showed a small tumor in his lung and he was back to square one. More chemotherapy and radiotherapy tried to kill this small tumor, but to no avail. Going to the extreme lengths and having only one option left, James opted to have his right lung removed to get rid of the cancer once and for all. However, a pre-surgery scan had more bad news. 3 more small tumors had developed in his abdomen and surgery was cancelled. With no options left, James did an immunotherapy trial to see if it could make a difference. After horrible side effects and multiple hospital visits, James' pain and health declined rapidly. A scan done the week of Christmas revealed the worst outcome imaginable, it had spread. James was diagnosed terminal with only a possible 3 to 6 months to live on the 23rd of December 2022.
James' family is currently caring for him and he is spending as much time with friends and family as possible. The one thing keeping him going is his bucket list. Many of us have one, slowly ticking things off here and there, but for James it is now or never. One of his top requests was to watch a cricket match live again, so we have organized him to see a BBL match on the 19th of January here in Canberra. There are more things James wants to do and unfortunately due to his condition, many things are going to be harder than 'just doing them'. He is wheelchair bound outside of the home and needs 24hr care, which makes things even harder.
Any money raised will be going to making these dreams of his come true and also, as per James' request, to his ongoing care (for which we currently have no financial or physical assistance).
All we want to do for James is to put a smile on his face every day until he leaves us and hopefully this can help make that happen.
