Come?

My name is Gregorio Dozzini, I am a 22-year-old director, actor and writer, born in Città di Castello (PG) and moved years ago to Rome.

At the age of 21 I shot my first independent feature film, totally self-produced, mixing techniques such as the modernism of digital and the classicism of shooting on film.

Now I need your help to finally be able to bring it to the big screen.

How? By participating in the fundraiser and/or spreading this page online.

GOALS:

— Cover post-production costs (color grading, sound design, subtitles,...).

— Acquire the rights for the lyrics of the song "Il ragazzo della Via Gluck", present several times within the film.

— Cover the submissions costs for national and international festivals (Locarno, Venice, Sundance, Berlin, Rotterdam, ...)

And now a bit more about the movie:

Unanswered prayers are those that pervade the world of the story. Loneliness is the master.

Davide and Elia are boys from Città di Castello (Umbria) who currently live in Rome, a place of childhood dreams and hopes, to which as children, failing, they tried to escape by stealing a canoe and sailing along the Tiber, which connects the two cities.

They have left behind turbulent pasts; for Davide a forced-to-hide queerness and an abusive mother, lost in alcohol and metaphysical delusions, for Elia a violent father, a succubus mother, and brother who escaped as soon as he reached 18.

However, despite the kilometers that separate them from their hometown, they continue to live in trauma. Elia works obsessively to avoid thinking, in his sight a black spot makes his way more and more cumbersome, he is attacked by sudden panic attacks, he ignores the calls of Davide and Sabrina, his girlfriend. Davide unconsciously follows in his mother's tracks of alcoholism, unable to overcome the end of an important relationship he finds himself going to bed with the first men he happens to meet in order to be in contact with someone, even if, at the same time, he avoids any kind of bond, except for Sabrina, suffering from anxiety and depression. When we meet her she will have already made the decision to leave this world.

After the umpteenth crisis at work, Elia decides to see Davide again. Together they will spend a night in the streets of Rome among arguments, jokes, beatings, screams and memories.

In the meantime, six months before the beginning of the story, the so-called "Situation of the Doubles and the Disappeared" was born: people, randomly and for no reason, began to disappear abrubtly and then reappeared in the form of Doubles, the same in all respects to the Disappeared except for white pupils and a black speck on the right cheek. The Doubles wander for days, weeks, months, ignoring human beings, until they stop and become root shadows to the ground.

Parallel to the story of David, Elia and Sabrina there will be those of faceless voices, which testify to the sudden disappearance of friends, colleagues, relatives, strangers.

In "Where the shadows go to die" the camera leaves no breath to the characters, almost always framed in close-ups or medium-shots (except for rare occasions). The use of long takes is multiple so to give space to emptiness, silences, the intimate amount of the incommunicable, memory, anger, unexpressed love. The horror genre is directed with naturalistic tact, while the real horror resides in memory, in interactions with the outside, in loneliness, in simple being.

Note: the film was shot using two formats: digital IPhone 13 Pro and Super 8 Film
