Our daughter, sister and friend Julie Volk , died in a car accident on I-80 in central Pennsylvania early Saturday morning on July 30th, 2022. She was planning to take a year leave of absence from the school where she taught the past several years and was moving from Manhattan back to West Chicago to help take care of her family. She was brilliant and loving and beautiful and selfless and talented and kind. She was an elementary school teacher in Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx for many years and loved her students as if they were her own children.
She loved the theater and lived her best life seeing shows on Broadway and exploring all New York City has to offer. She loved to travel and see the world. She loved to play softball and go to trivia night and sing showtunes with her talented friends. Her favorite color was rainbow because she just loved all of the colors together. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.
She loved Jesus Christ. She loved His Gospel and she served in her congregation throughout her life and in the temple weekly for many years. She had served Him and others as a missionary in Mesa, Arizona. I know she has returned to her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in joy and all of our loved ones we have lost before.
