Dior needs surgery (or he dies)! #TeamDior #bunny

Hi everyone as you know my name is Maria (Zoe) and my fur babies are my life. Like many of you I do not have human children. My children have paws! :) My cousin and a few friends suggested I do this and I thank them for that.

Dior is my bunny, that helped me heal from losing my dog Dolce. I never realized how smart, affectionate and feisty bunnies can be. He is almost 8 years old and has been there for me through thick and thin. There is nothing I wouldn’t do to help my pets as they have helped me through life’s saddest moments.

Unfortunately, one morning I woke up and noticed his lip was not moving and his facial asymmetry appeared strange. Dior suffered from facial (cranial) nerve paralysis caused by a severe inner ear infection that remained undetected even though I took him to the exotic vet twice in the last month (as you saw from the pictures I posted). Imagine my frustration!

Long story short, I took him to the 404 Exotics Referral hospital where the zoology team tried every medication under the sun; but after an $1800 CT-Scan I was told he needs a $6,000+ surgery or he dies. The infection will travel to his brain without it. I was told they operated on much older bunnies (12 years old) and were very successful. I do not have the heart to end my baby’s life or watch him die in pain.

The surgery is called partial ear canal ablation and bulla osteotomy (PECA-BO) and involves the removal of large sections of diseased ear canal, infected bone and pus/wax to reduce pain and suffering and hopefully reverse the paralysis as well.

Dior is still eating, happy and feisty as ever. Even with his crooked little lip he is so cute- and very loved by his buddies Oro and Romeo! Lol

His surgery is scheduled for November 16th. I have never asked anyone’s for anything and have donated and helped raised money for countless of animals and even people. It is my turn to ask you all near and far, to please help me cover the cost of my baby’s surgery. I rescue animals that nobody wants. They ended up taking up my whole heart and I hope that you can share a piece of yours with us!
