This Sunday, Columbia Field Hockey will take on LIU in our annual game benefiting The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research.

Now in its sixth year, I’m incredibly grateful to the Columbia field Hockey community for continuing this valued partnership and tradition each year. Supporting brain cancer research is deeply personal to me and my family.

Just before my freshman year at Columbia, my dad, Rick, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer that had already taken my uncle Tom in 2015. Throughout his treatment, my dad made it to nearly every game that first season and loved being part of the Columbia Field Hockey community.

After my dad passed in 2021, this game became a way to honor him while raising funds for research and supporting the many other families affected by this disease.

Over the past five years, this incredible community has helped us raise more than $34,000 for brain cancer research, including a record-breaking $14,000 last year alone.

As we head into year six, I continue to be amazed by the current players, coaches, former teammates, alumni, family, and friends who show up for this cause year after year and have helped turn this game into such a meaningful tradition.

All funds raised benefit The Broach Foundation, which supports Dr. Fred Lang’s research team at MD Anderson Cancer Center and their work toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for glioblastoma.

Thank you to new and old friends who take time to be a part of this annual game. Every donation, big or small, truly makes a difference.

Go Lions!

Best,
